the west is wild

Beautiful photos with minimal clothes so the jewelry can really pop.

prada f/w 2013

The emotion in this collection is palpable. The way the clothes were worn- disheveled, haphazardly draped off a shoulder- told a story of a woman who has been through something. The models' wet hair and dramatic makeup only perpetuated this story. Skirts were deconstructed and asymmetrical at the hem with many layered over a button-up shirt; all were cinched at the waist with a wide belt, as were coats. Chunky lug-sole shoes grounded the looks.

oscars 2013 best dressed

Understated glamour seemed to be the theme of last night's Academy Awards. My picks for best dressed are: Anne Hathaway in a pale blush Prada column, Amy Adams in a frothy ice blue Oscar de la Renta gown, Charlize Theron in sleek Dior Haute Couture, Jessica Chastain in custom Armani, Jennifer Lawrence in elegant Dior Haute Couture (complete with a delicate backwards necklace- love), and Samantha Barks in plunging navy Valentino.

Honourable mentions to Amanda Seyfried in Alexander McQueen, Halle Berry in Versace and Jennifer Aniston in Valentino Couture.

Who are your best dressed picks?

tom ford f/w 2013

Tom Ford's f/w 2013 collection was the definition of OTT. If you're a regular reader of my blog, you'll know that I'm more drawn to a minimalist aesthetic but these clothes were maximalist to the hilt and they were sublime. There were bomber jackets emblazoned with stars the likes of which you would see in a superhero comic book, lace tops paired with floral sequin skirts worn with intricately-embroidered knee high boots, biker fringe, woven graphic prints; it was a veritable feast for the eyes.
