a piece of morocco

Moroccan rugs add such an interesting element to a room. Traditionally, Moroccan rugs have been woven by tribal peoples for their utility rather than for decorative purposes (typically used as bedding in the winter months). The above two photos show beautiful examples of the rugs of the Beni Ourain tribe of  Morocco's Atlas Mountains. This tribe's rugs are usually heavy cream or white pile with geometric designs and are hugely popular in the West.

aerial photography by katrin korfmann

Geri recently posted these amazing aerial photos by German photographer Katrin Korfmann. I had to share some of her photographs because they're so captivating, I just get lost in the images.
1. Vrindavan, 2012  2. Shanghai, 2013  3. New York City, 2010  4. Amsterdam, 2010

German-born and Amsterdam-based artist Katrin Korfmann loves taking photos of human life, from a height. She shoots from cranes, and when cranes are not possible, she sends her camera up in a remote-controlled helicopter.

Korfmann takes multiple images and then blends them together to produce the final image, a task that can take two to three months working with 500 to 2,000 shots. Since the pictures are often taken at different times, Korfmann has to manipulate the shadows and exposure to create an image that appears to have been taken at one point in time.

“In the bird’s-eye view people look alike,” Korfmann said in an interview to Slate. “The idea is to create two dimensions: one when you see it from far away and another when you zoom in and see it from very close. Then you see all the differences: in the clothes they wear, the things they carry.”
