chanel s/s 2012

"Under the Sea" was the undoubted theme for Chanel's spring 2012 collection as the backdrop in the Grand Palais was optic white sea creatures, shells and corals. But unlike a high school prom, there were no tacky taffeta gowns here. Elegant frothy confections came in seafoam, ivory and blush hues. One dress in blue chiffon was paired with a structured white topper lined with the same. As if cultivated from the very "oysters" used to create the setting, Karl's bauble of choice was the pearl, which appeared on everything from clothing, necklaces, belts and hair ornaments to nose, eyebrow and lip rings. The footwear was mainly silver ankle boots with a low sculpted heel and strappy thong sandals. Florence Welch played the token mermaid when she emerged dreamily from an immense shell to sing "What the Water Gave Me".
