He's like, a totally important designer!
My boyfriend and I watched A View to a Kill (1985) recently and I loved Grace Jones' costumes (she played Mayday). After doing a bit of online research I discovered the inimitable Azzedine Alaïa designed her entire wardrobe for the film.
I find Alaïa to be one of the most interesting designers because he doesn't design for seasons. He is never featured in Paris Fashion Week. He shows his collections to only a select group, including the International Herald Tribune's Suzy Menkes. You can view some looks from his private show in Paris here.
