balmain s/s '10

I struggled a bit on whether or not I should post about Balmain s/s '10. Aside from style.com's rather glowing review, many bloggers are expressing their distaste for this collection. Christophe Decarnin's glam rock chick aesthetic has been purely visible in his last three collections for Balmain and he is receiving a lot of flack for being a "one trick pony", among other things. The commercial success of Decarnin's designs is undeniable; he single-handedly introduced the peaked shoulder craze to the world with his s/s '09 collection and that is still holding strong. Further, I can't keep track of the shoe knock-offs (you know the ones I'm talking about). Personally, I liked a lot of the looks from the s/s '10 collection. The edgy military references throughout (sequined camo, fringed épaulettes) are kind of amazing and will be extremely popular with stylish ladies from Julia Restoin-Roitfeld to Beyoncé. Do I think they're worth the $10000 they'll be sold for? No I don't. The garments' quality of craftmanship isn't worth that kind of cash. I'm sure a lot of you would agree with me on that.

I loved a lot of it and the way things are looking, I don't think you can hate on a designer for making what sells...xxxx

I've actually seen a good many bloggers and editors getting into "Balmainia" this season, in contrast to the disaproval you mentioned. It seems like this collection is smattered, with great reverence, across every other style site I visit!

I agree that Decarnin's work is getting a bit monotonous in genre. But when you're good your good, and as far as this look goes Christophe is GOOD! Stellar even.

But I do think much of it looks like stuff you could find for cheaper in Guess or Bebe. Though that may be an unfortunate biproduct of the particular style.

agree with everything you said
and balmain is always pretty but yeah...as far as "newness" he seems to be repeating that rocker glam vibe
and not worth those horrendous sums of money
but i still looove balmain, i must admit!

The Balmain's collection is too gold and silver, maybe a little bit less would be ok.. But the collection is stunning anyway ;)

This collection's definitely more of a progression rather than a trot forward for Balmain, but nevertheless there are some beautiful dresses and blazers. I love these pieces you chose!
