The emotion in this collection is palpable. The way the clothes were worn- disheveled, haphazardly draped off a shoulder- told a story of a woman who has been through something. The models' wet hair and dramatic makeup only perpetuated this story. Skirts were deconstructed and asymmetrical at the hem with many layered over a button-up shirt; all were cinched at the waist with a wide belt, as were coats. Chunky lug-sole shoes grounded the looks.

I didn't see any footage of Diane on the livestream so I had no idea she was wearing this stunning Prada gown until pics were released yesterday. Perfect accessories and loving that she wore her hair down.

prada s/s 2012

Retro-glam is alive and well in Miuccia Prada's world of "Sweetness", as she succinctly described her 1950's-inspired collection for spring 2012. Models evoking images of Sandra Dee in Grease wore accordion-pleated skirts in silk chiffon and leather with flirty crochet and lace collarless jackets. Automobile prints appeared on everything from bandeau tops to skirts to dresses. One such dress (my favorite, above left) featured a flame print often adorned on tail-finned automobiles of the era. The latter detail was even incorporated onto sandals, some even with bold yet playful torpedo tail lights.

I could never do this to my Prada sweater. If I actually owned one, that is. But this is definitely DIY-able if you have a (cheap) knit that's on its last leg.

The way the models are photographed reminds me of those cheesy portrait studios with the fake forest background, except here the poses are more Saks department store mannequin and the backgrounds are fake forest on acid. I really love the clothes; they're much more understated than the accessories, like the armful of bangles in bright, punchy hues, but still playful. The denim pieces are kind of awesome, especially the super wide-leg pair that should come with the disclaimer: shouldn't be worn by anyone under 6 feet, 100 lbs. And remember when socks and sandals were nerdy? Miuccia disagrees. Chunky platforms + ballet-esque flats + socks = amazing.

prada fantasy lookbook f/w 2010

Sorry for the image-heavy post, lovers but it was sooo hard for me to choose my fave images from Prada's fall 2010 35-image fantasy lookbook. Miuccia always steers away from the norm with her artful collections so wouldn't it only make sense to produce an equally artful lookbook? The cartoonish aspects of the lookbook are bright, bold and don't make a lot of sense... but they don't really have to; the clothes are the focal point of each image and its interesting to see how they're interpreted.
