classic yellow

I've said many times that I'm not really a color-wearing person but that one area I love color is in my accessories; especially when the accessory is the Céline Resort 2011 Classic bag. Loooove!

prada resort 2011

The way the models are photographed reminds me of those cheesy portrait studios with the fake forest background, except here the poses are more Saks department store mannequin and the backgrounds are fake forest on acid. I really love the clothes; they're much more understated than the accessories, like the armful of bangles in bright, punchy hues, but still playful. The denim pieces are kind of awesome, especially the super wide-leg pair that should come with the disclaimer: shouldn't be worn by anyone under 6 feet, 100 lbs. And remember when socks and sandals were nerdy? Miuccia disagrees. Chunky platforms + ballet-esque flats + socks = amazing.

I can really appreciate the sophisticated minimalism of these pieces. The suits are superbly tailored and the looser tops add ease to the looks. I would love to introduce these pieces into my late summer / early fall work wardrobe.

Super adorable, wearable pieces!! And again, its a collection that references the '70s (in a soft way) so obviously I like it. The clothes remind me a little of Zara; cool and on-trend. Anyone else?

alexander mcqueen resort 2011

It seems that in the collective opinion of the fashion world (and little ol' me), Sarah Burton passed her first test as creative director of Alexander McQueen with flying colors. Successfully maintaing the dramatic and darkly romantic aesthetic the label is known for, this collection is so very McQueen. The strengths of the collection are the more formal looks with garments ranging from a nude handkerchief-hemmed frock with lace detailing to a short black drop-waist dress with armoured shoulders to a gorgeous red and black chiffon gown. My favorite is a black suit with tailcoat, pure sophisticated glamour.

Dear Marianne Faithfull:
So I think Acne may have gone through your laundry because I'm pretty sure these are the clothes you wore in the '70s (or modern versions thereof).
Yours truly,
Ashley

chloé resort 2011

I've been drawn to the resort collections that echo the '70s, and this one is no exception. Hannah MacGibbon has definitely felt the influence of Phoebe Philo's clean, ladylike vibe that she's injected into Céline. The neutral toned clothes are cut in simple, modest shapes; no bells and whistles here unless you count a cream-hued leather sheath whipstitched at the waist and a pencil skirt with similar detail at the front. A stunning look was a brick red skirt and top ensemble. Plus, I love the footwear: multiple versions of an ankle-strapped sandal in a flat, a heel and a wedge (very similar to a certain Céline wedge). I'm really into the high-waisted cropped leather pant paired with the nude chiffon blouse; total tough girl with a softer side.

This is like, half the collection. I actually had to edit down my picks because I didn't want to post the entire 29-look collection on my blog when you could just go to style.com and check it out there. Anyhoo, seriously such amazing pieces! Geared towards the super modern, urban it-girl, the pieces are made to create an effortlessly chic look. The baggy silk cuffed short is the perfect separate since practically every tank, jacket and tee in the collection can be worn with it. An embroidered bra-top paired with a slim belted pant are unexpected together but so so good. I really love the bustier top layered over the slouchy white tee; tucked into a black circle skirt its clean and unfussy. And you know these clothes are going to be all over celebs: Gwyneth in the belted column gown with draped sleeves, KBos or Diane Kruger in the red mini...
